250505 – Tag 4 / Montag, 5.

Day 4 / Monday, May 5 – Chimelong Ocean Kingdom

After breakfast, Mr. Siu and his wife Alice take us to the “Chimelong International Ocean Culture Tourist Resort“. Ada had told us about it – we had never heard of it before. The resort – currently with two theme parks and several themed hotels – is enormous, and we Disney-trained tourists are curious.

Wow. Just WOW! Chimelong Ocean Kingdom is a fantastic mix of attractions – aquariums, outdoor animal enclosures, roller coasters, merry-go-rounds, shops, and restaurants – similar to SeaWorld in the USA, but three times the size, with a massive LED screen over the entrance promenade and a giant whale shark sculpture as its landmark. We see seals, sea lions and walruses, brown bears, polar bears and penguins, cormorants, herons and a night heron, flamingos and capybaras, and an impressive fleet of pelicans. And of course, countless fish, moray eels, sharks, turtles, and other sea creatures. The showpiece of the park is the whale shark aquarium, which holds several world records – including the largest water tank and the world’s largest acrylic window. And here, for the first time in our lives, we see a whale shark – actually four of them, peacefully gliding in circles.

We dive into the fun, marvel at the colorful parade, the ballet of water fountains, and the spectacular waterboard acrobats. In the evening, another brightly lit parade follows, and then we get to see an incredible spectacle: fireworks, projections on the huge whale shark sculpture, and a fleet of drones telling a story in the sky. We’re deeply impressed but completely exhausted, and we haven’t even seen the whole park yet—plus, there’s another park next door. Thankfully, Ada booked a 3-day, 2-night package at a hotel right in the resort – we’re utterly worn out and collapse into bed after 25,000 steps, our legs aching badly.
