Heute früh ziehen wir zwei alleine los, zuerst nochmals ins Ocean Kingdom -wir fahren die Wasserbahnen und probieren (fast) alle Hochschaubahnen aus, besuchen Eisbären und Pinguine und nochmals die Walhaie, bevor wir dann in ins Spaceship wechseln. Und dieser Park gleich nebenan verdient seinen Namen tatsächlich – von oben erinnert die kühne Konstruktion entfernt an Raumschiff Voyager. Hier befinden sich fast alle Attraktionen im Inneren des Gebäudes, auf zwei Ebenen. Besonders lustig finden wir den Virtual Reality Ride – man bekommt VR Brillen aufgesetzt und muss mittels Handbewegungen Ziele treffen – von unten betrachtet, sehen die wild mit den Armen wedelnden Passagiere in den kleinen gelben Schwebegondeln einfach nur lustig aus.
Auch im Spaceship befinden sich jede Menge Aquarien, mit viel Erklärungen, erfreulicherweise auch auf Englisch. Wir verlaufen uns ein paarmal, finden aber dann doch ins Orca Stadion, wo wir gerade zur Show zurecht kommen. Im unteren Bereich, vor der riesigen Acrylwand des Orca-Beckens ist die Akustik phenomenal – wie ein fünfköpfiges Klassikorchester eindrucksvoll beweist.
Anschließend brauchen wir dringend etwas zu essen – die Bestellung ist für uns noch etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig – man scannt einen QR-Code, bestellt und zahlt online. Aber wir haben ja bereits am Sonntag die entsprechenden Apps heruntergeladen, und können mittlerweile mit Alipay und WeChat ganz gut umgehen, und: wir sind komplett bargeldlos unterwegs – eigentlich sehr angenehm.
Entgegen dem Wetterbericht regnet es nicht, die Wolkendecke reißt auf, und wir würden gern mit der Gondelbahn auf den Berg fahren, um den Park von oben anzusehen. Nach etlichen Umwegen finden wir schließlich die Station der Gondelbahn, aber leider: Eröffnung im Juli. Also – wir müssen wiederkommen.
Am frühen Abend wechseln wir wieder zurück ins Ocean Kingdom (wir brauchen unsere Tickets nicht mehr zu zücken, der Zutritt funktioniert mittels Gesichtserkennung) – das abendliche Spektakel gestern hat uns so beeindruckt, dass wir uns das heute gleich nochmals anschauen wollen.
Day 5 / Tuesday, May 6 – Chimelong Ocean Kingdom and Spaceship
This morning, the two of us head out alone, back to Ocean Kingdom. We ride the water attractions and (almost) all the roller coasters, visit the polar bears and penguins again, and, of course, revisit the whale sharks. Then we move to the park next door – Spaceship. And this park truly earns its name – from above, the bold structure resembles the Starship Voyager. Almost all attractions are inside the building, spread over two levels. A highlight is the Virtual Reality Ride – you wear VR goggles and use hand movements to hit targets. Viewed from below, the passengers wildly waving their arms in the yellow floating pods look hilariously funny.
Spaceship also features numerous aquariums, and a lot of information – thankfully also in English. We get lost a few times but eventually find our way to the Orca Stadium just in time for the show. In the lower section, in front of the massive acrylic wall of the Orca tank, the acoustics are phenomenal – as proven by a five-piece classic orchestra.
Afterward, we urgently need food – ordering is a bit of a challenge: we have to scan a QR code, order and pay online. But since we downloaded the necessary apps on Sunday, we’re getting used to Alipay and WeChat – managing everything entirely cashless is actually quite convenient.
Contrary to the weather forecast, it doesn’t rain, the clouds part, and we want to take the cable car up the mountain for a bird’s-eye view of the park. After several detours, we find the station – only to see it’s set to open in July. So, we’ll just have to come back.
In the early evening, we return to Ocean Kingdom (no need to show the tickets at the turnstile anymore – entry works via facial recognition) – yesterday’s night show impressed us so much, we want to experience it again tonight.
