Monday, June 8 – Hunting in Hong Kong
Liman found two addresses for model car shops in Hong Kong for us, so early in the morning we hop on the unmistakable Disney Resort MTR train with its Mickey Mouse-shaped windows and head to Tsim Sha Tsui, located in the heart of mainland Hong Kong.
The first specialty shop is located in a shopping center on the bustling Nathan Road, and we strike gold there: no fewer than 18 new additions to our collection end up in our shopping bag—good thing we brought the large blue IKEA bag!
We then stroll down to the harbor and the Star Ferry terminal. Taking the ferry across to Hong Kong Island is practically a must for anyone visiting this fascinating city. Along the way, we also find a few ambulances in various souvenir shops. The second store in Causeway Bay turns out to be another excellent tip—our collection grows by eleven more emergency vehicles.
Since we had only planned one day for Hong Kong city itself, today’s goal was relaxed shopping—and we accomplished that very successfully. We’ll save the sightseeing for our next visit.
We pick up a few items for dinner at the supermarket and then take the MTR back to our hotel at the Disney Resort. Tomorrow we have tickets for Disneyland once again, and in the evening we’ll be heading home.
