Day 174 – Sailing from Portobelo to Colombia
In the morning we take a walk through Portobelo – a nice, little village with an artistic touch and quite a bit of history: in 1737 there was a battle raging here, the only sea battle the English ever won in these waters. They were so proud of it that they named a street in London after the village – Portobello Road. Fun fact for us – we have been there, at the flea market and of course we know Portobello Road from Disney´s classic “Bed knobs and Broomsticks. Today only the ruins of Fuerte San Jéronimo and Fuerte Santiago remain, and the grassy hill high above the village. We visit the Iglesia de San Felipe, and then a pharmacy – we want to take Dramamine with us on the boat – who knows how the weather will be and we want to enjoy the sailing cruise.
And then the taxi is here to drive us to Linton Bay Marina in Puerto Lindo. We arrive shortly before 2 pm and are asked to wait at the restaurant for our captain. Slowly, all guests arrive, we put our stuff on board and get an instruction for life on board. We are looking forward to our sailing adventure; what we know for sure is that we won´t have internet for the next 5 days, so no blog. We will be back online from Cartagena, Colombia – next country, next continent, the adventure will continue!
