Tag 78 – Florida

Day 78 – Florida

After a quiet night at the marina at Jacksonville Beach we follow the A1A along the coast direction south. On the way we stop at Castle Otttis ( no, no typo, it really spells with 3 t´s) – a strange building from the 1980s, an architectural landmark with an Christian multiconfessional background, meant to resemble an Irish castle.

In St. Augustine we pass Castillo de San Marcos, stop at the drawbridge because some large sailing vessels want to pass, and then, further south, we visit Fort Matanzas. The Fort is situated on Rattlesnake Island and can only be reached by boat with the National Park Service. It is a very small Fort, but is was more than sufficient to control the south entrance of the Matanzas inlet and to guard St. Augustine from the south.

An island further south we park again to go for a swim, then we drive to Orlando and check in at the hotel. Yes, we will be staying at a hotel for a few days, and our car will get an inspection. So we prepare the car for tomorrow´s date at the repair shop, do the laundry and then we get ready for dinner with Crisanda. We haven´t seen each other for too long – last time we were here, in December 2019, Joan was still with us. Joan, we love you and we miss you so much!
