Day 69 – Lost Sea and Dollywood: The Lost Sea Adventure in Sweetwater, TN, is a large cavern system with beautiful, rare crystal formations called Anthodites or cave flowers and an underground lake where you can go on a boat ride – clear water, and large trouts in there. No, they don´t reproduce there, and no, there is no natural food source – so they get food when the tourist boots come and they get restocked if their number dwindles. But the primary idea behind putting trouts in the lake was NOT for the tourists – the trouts were all marked in hope that they would find a natural way out of the cavern so that someday, when they get caught, the way of the water will become known. Never happened, they never found a way out – or they were not looking for one because food is readily available right where they are.

And then we went to see: Dolly Parton! Yes, we saw Dolly in person, riding a parade car at her amusement park, Dollywood, in Pigeon Forge, TN. This was a rare opportunity, we were told – she was only appearing publicly yesterday and today – age 76, still looking fantastic! The park itself impressed us very much (and we have been to many different theme parks over the years) – nestled into the valley, the rides and attractions themed to the area, a lot of great shows going on, good food and nice merchandise. There are some very good rides, like the Mystery Mine, the Fire Chaser Express, the Blazing Fury or the Thunderhead – most of the rides don´t just offer a thrill experience, they tell a story and that´s what we liked about them. But the very best part was the fireworks and drone show at 9:30 p.m., just after the (very exhausting) dance party I participated in – this was absolutely stunning, drones painting moving pictures in the sky, it was a breathtaking experience.
