Tag 85 – Unbekanntes Florida
Day 85 – Unknown Florida
We have been to Florida more than 30 times, but we have never visited the capital Tallahassee, or the panhandle – so this is new for us. The capitol in Tallahassee is, well, difficult to describe – let´s say, it is different. The old capitol barely survived – after several reconstructions, additions and changes there were plans to demolish it, but finally it was saved and restored to its state of 1902; the funny, red and white awnings reminded us of an ice cream parlor. But the new capitol building looked really strange to us – functional, unattractive 70s architecture. But then we found Walt Disney in the Tourism Hall of Fame inside the building, and
We continue south, on highways through endless green with “caution, bears” – signs, till we find a nice spot on the beach near Carabelle. It is unbearably hot and humid, so we stay the afternoon, take a nap and go for a swim – but the water in the Gulf of Mexico is too warm to be refreshing. We drive to Panama City, cross a time zone line, and enjoy the rain in the evening – after a little bit of thunder and lightning it is cooler and less humid.
