Tuesday, June 2 – Shanghai Disneyland
Our last day in Shanghai and our second day at Shanghai Disneyland. The shuttle bus from the hotel to Disneyland takes half an hour, but we need another 90 minutes from the parking lot to cross the bridge, go through the X-ray security check, pass the ticket gates, and finally enter the park. And it is very hot today—over 30°C (86°F).
At the Guest Service Center, the employee Ava (no, that’s not a typo), who speaks excellent English, is so delighted by our First Visit buttons from 2016 that he gives us 2026 Annual Pass buttons. He even manages to find a paper park map for us as a souvenir.
We stroll through the shops. Duffy, LinaBell, and their friends are hardly known in Disneyland Paris, Florida, or California, but here the stores are bursting with merchandise. Their fans—naturally dressed in appropriate outfits—wait up to 2.5 hours just to take a photo with one of these characters.
Inside the castle, all the Disney princesses are commemorated, and the story of Snow White is presented—there is certainly enough room for it in the largest Disney castle of them all.
TRON Lightcycle Run already fascinated us during our first visit ten years ago. Riding in an almost prone position on a motorcycle-like vehicle, you first race outdoors above the crowds before continuing through a dark indoor section. This time, we even manage to film the entire ride with our phones—as the “finish photo” clearly shows…
In the Toy Story area, I successfully defend my rank of Space ACE on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. This is followed by a very pleasant walk through scenes from the most important Pixar films, and of course the Marvel superheroes are represented as well.
After riding the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, we wander through Alice and the Cheshire Cat’s maze before ending our visit to Shanghai Disneyland with one final boat ride on Pirates of the Caribbean—without a doubt our favorite attraction here.
We make our way through Disneytown to the parking lot and take the shuttle back to the hotel. Today we covered 12.8 km (about 8 miles), or roughly 20,000 steps. Once again, it is time to pack our suitcases. Tomorrow we leave China for the time being and continue on to Hong Kong.
