Tag 483 / 459 – Hausputz, Tag 1
Day 483 / 459 – Cleaning the house, Day 1
It´s Sunday, so we could sleep in – but of course, we are awake at dawn, although we have three days to take care of our Brave Camper – manicure, pedicure and Spa, so to speak, to get the vehicle ready for shipping. We have to empty all the compartments, get some minor repair work done, sort stuff out, clean and put all our belongings back in the vehicle. Somehow, lots of ambulance models and toys for our collection have accumulated – more than 200 so far, and the adventure isn´t over yet. We have already sent several boxes home, nevertheless we still have many ambulances to stow.
As the vehicle has to be unlocked for shipping with hatches and compartments accessible for inspection, we try to stow as best as possible to prevent getting robbed. After the inspection, the living room will be locked, and we hope that our Brave Camper will have a safe journey home, same as from Hamburg, Germany, to Halifax, Canada, last year without getting broken into (we have read some horror stories in several online travel groups about campers forcefully opened and robbed). So, we play “Tetris”, using every inch of available space, even in the basement, where our air condition once was located.
Then, we create a menu plan for the next days – there mustn´t be any food on board during shipping, so we should finish all our provisions. On the other hand, Terraventura, Timo´s place, is miles away from the next village and therefore any supermarket, so the supplies should last exactly till breakfast on the morning of the planned delivery date.
And that date just changed – our ship is delayed, and we have one or two extra days till delivery. Luckily, we booked our flight home for end of August. We are well taken care of by Timo and his brothers Felix and Michael, and we have some nice company at the campsite – a Belgium-Polish pair of campers, and a German couple with their monster truck. In the evening, some little, green racketeers fly over our heads, southern lapwings run across the meadow, clamoring loudly, rufous horneros work on their house high up on the lamp pole, and grey crested cardinals are looking for food. And the two local “guard llamas” are also passing by – we will miss the local fauna very much, when we are back home!
