Tag 241 – Gestrandet

Day 241 – Marooned

We are still at the Plaza de Armas in Combapata, in front of the police station. Time is going by s-l-o-w-l-y. One of the worst things for us is the fact, that we can do absolutely NOTHING which would help us move on. A short walk to the gas station is a welcome break, but only makes us realize that they are not selling any fuel right now. Fortunately, we filled up on diesel while passing through Cuzco.

A fruit vendor on his tricycle passes by, the bananas and mangoes are looking good. A few small stores are open; we still have enough food for several days on board, but we use the opportunity and get some bread, eggs, butter, milk, the basic stuff, chat with the friendly locals and play ball with a future soccer star. Then we kill some time with managing and filing our pictures; from time to time we ask at the police station if there are any news. We are bored, even too bored to do stuff like cleaning or doing the laundry. We were looking forward to see the game France – Morocco, but we missed it because we couldn´t find a way to stream it. What a pity.

In the afternoon, we contact the Austrian Embassy in Lima, to tell them where we are and that we are ok. During the following chat, it turns out, that the embassy attaché is from our home town and that we have friends and acquaintances in common. Small world! Having nothing to do tires us out, so we go to sleep early, hoping for better news tomorrow.
