250502 / 250503 – Das Abenteuer Asien beginnt

Tag 1 & 2 / Freitag, 2. & Samstag, 3.

Day 1 & 2 / Friday, May 2 & Saturday, May 3, 2025 – From Vienna to Hong Kong

Last year at the holiday fair, a cruise offer caught our eye: from the north of Taiwan across the southern Japanese islands with a detour to South Korea and ending in the north of Japan. After much consideration, we booked it and began planning—and since we were already going to East Asia, we added Tokyo Disneyland after the cruise and a sightseeing tour of Taiwan beforehand. And Hong Kong is basically just a stone’s throw away, so to speak… and that’s how a two-and-a-half-week cruise turned into a seven-week adventure across five countries.

The flight from Vienna via Frankfurt to Hong Kong was more than pleasant, totally relaxed, and with very lovely crews from both Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa. Flight attendant Yiting from Shanghai is delighted that we have visited her hometown before – she gives us a small Lufthansa plush airplane which we name “Hansi” and entrust it to Señorita Rosita aka Princesa Alpinka Llama, who is accompanying us on this trip.

We were already expected at the airport in Hong Kong, and then we take a bus to the northern district. We haven’t seen Ada and Liman, Leo and Cleo for 9 years, so is is a very happy and  joyful reunion. And we met Johnny, who—unlike us—blends in perfectly here, but was actually born and raised in the Bahamas – he is a native English speaker and understands only a few words in Chinese.

After an extensive dinner “Chinese style,” we quickly pack a few things into small trolleys (tomorrow we will be driving to Zhuhai by car, and there’s no room for our big suitcases), before collapsing into bed in Leo’s guest room, utterly exhausted.
